Manila International Auto Show

History of the Manila International Auto Show

In South East Asia, the Philippines is one of the seats of automotive history. In the years after World War II, the Philippines became an attractive venue for foreign investment. Japanese companies seeking to expand their market penetration established factories in this country. There were notable early successes: In 1955, Mercedes-Benz established an assembly plant in the Philippines that was the first in the world outside of Germany, to produce its E-Class sedan. In 1972, GM established a jointly owned vehicle and transmission manufacturing operation in the Philippines with two Philippine companies. In 1979, Isuzu Motors invests in the venture, GM Pilipinas, Inc.
During the Martial Law regime of Ferdinand Marcos, foreign investment dried up, and most car companies shuttered their operations in the country. Stalwarts such as Toyota and Ford stopped producing and selling cars. GM Pilipinas’ assembly and transmission plants ceased operation in 1985. With the restoration of a credible government, and establishment of freer trade policies, the Philippines was again back on the map. Soon, carmakers were establishing new facilities in the region, and the Philippines attracted it share of investment.
In a land once called the Pearl of the Orient, where “Jeepneys” and “Calesas” were once the king of the road, Manila is now positioning to be an automotive force to reckon with. With production figures inching closely to pre-Asian crisis volumes, the automotive industry appears to be shifting to a higher gear.
The clamour for growth and the need for the automotive brands to be showcased in a forum for new model debuts became the impetus to stage the first ever Manila International Motor Show. For this very reason, motoring writers Jason K. Ang, Ulysses K. Ang, and Alvin Uy approached Joseph Ang, Chairman of Worldbex Services International and talked about the idea of holding an international grade and industry-based auto show. Joseph Ang, an events and tradeshow veteran, quickly grasped the idea and announced the holding of the first ever Manila Motor Show held April 2005 as a tribute to his late father, who was in the automotive dealership business before his passing.
In 2006, the MANILA INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW, was presented by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and legitimate establishments and partners in the automotive industry..

Bentley Continental Supersport Convertible World Ice Speed Record

Bentley Continental Supersport Convertible World Ice Speed Record

Juha Kankkunen managed to overcome the perilous endeavor with the help of Bentley engineers and his own experienced team. Kankunnen and the team faced temperatures of minus 30 degrees, sudden snow blizzards and dangerous crosswinds to set the new world record on a 16.5 km track sitting on 70 centimeters of sea ice.
Only minimum modifications were made on the Continental Supersport Convertible. The team added a rear bumper mounted parachute and a fully welded heavy duty safety roll-cage to ensure the safety of Kankkunen in emergency situations. The run was done on Pirelli SottoZero II 275/40R20 winter tires.
Bentley will only offer a limited edition of 100 units of this extreme model Continental. The car will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show on the 1st of March.

* Supercars * New Cars * Used Cars The weird and wonderful Hummer limousine

The Hummer limousine is becoming more and more popular and is today used for everything, from business meetings and corporate events to prom nights and bachelor parties. When you see a modern dolled-up Hummer limousine it can be hard to believe that this car can trace its ancestry back to the military hummer, formally know as the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. The civilian Hummer is a fairly new invention but the history of the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle begins in the 1970s when the United States Armed Forces decided that they needed something to replace their militaries trucks. AM General, a subsidiary of American Motors Corporation, became responsible for preliminary a design and prototype construction, and soon they had managed to create a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. This car naturally had very little in common with the modern Hummer limousines of today. Hummer limousines are definitely High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles, but they are certainly not suitable for rough terrain. The exact length of a Hummer limousine can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but they are usually around 38 feet long 15 feet longer than a Hummer H2. A majority of the Hummer limousines available from rental agencies are fitted with glamorous SUV-seats in black or red leather and the maximal number of passengers depends on the interior decorations.

The Hummer H3

The Hummer H3

The newest addition to the Hummer family is the Hummer H3 and this car is also the smallest of the family members. Compared to its predecessors, the Hummer H3 is less of an extreme car and more of an ordinary SUV at least to the naked eye. The Hummer 3 - H3 has however received standing ovations for its capacity in rough terrain; this car will take your kids to soccer practice even if you have to driver through a flooded field in Uzbekistan to get them there. The H3 is equipped with a 3.5-liter 5-cylinder engine that can develop 220 hp and 225 foot-pounds of torque and its road handling capabilities are excellent. On the downside, the Hummer H3 is uses up a lot of gas compared to other SUVs. The Hummer H1 and H2 are both infamous for their fuel consumption and the H3 will do not better than 18 miles per gallon on the highway. The MPG for city driving is 14, which is not very impressive. Another difficulty noted by some Hummer H3 drivers is poor visibility. This is not a problem if you are fairly tall, but shorter persons can have a hard time keeping an eye on certain angles while driving your H3. This is naturally a problem for road safety, especially when driving in areas with a lot of bikers and pedestrians.

However, wait till you enter the cabin since an explosion of funky colors awaits you like black and red, black and purple or all black. Speaking of dropping, there is a height reduction of 10mm making this remarkable sports car go zoom past any tall looking SUV.

2011 Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid Concept

The spindle-shaped front grille for example, which is an aesthetic feature that Lexus is set to bombard the market with in the future, makes the transitions between the older and the newer models much smoother.
The designers of the 2011 Lexus LF-Gh Hybrid Concept are very proud of how they managed to put together two seemingly contradictory car technology elements. The usually opposing concept of style and quality are also combined into highly efficient models that will surely benefit the users.
A clear balance is found between the two, thereby producing designs that are not only functional but are also pleasing to the eye. Without a doubt, this is a milestone for the field of car technology, for this is a task that a lot of car manufacturers have tried their hands in the past, to no avail.
